Shit weather, shit hunting, shit body, shit, shit, shit, Bird thought, staring at the bloom of saturated crimson on her silvery fur. It stood out like a bison standing in the middle of a snow-covered field.

Unmistakable, and a certain invitation to those catering to particular instincts.

Bird would have hoped the stress of leaving her home behind to eat itself alive and her current food predicament might have stressed her to a point where this sort of thing wouldn't happen but you win some, you lose some, she supposed. Clamping her tail down hard around her rump and flicking it to tuck to her belly, she hauled herself to her feet and set about snuffling at the cold, lifeless and damp earth for a bounty. Mother Nature always had something for her, it was just a matter of Bird being stubborn and resourceful enough to get her to give it up.

It took a few hours, during which the 'ignoring her heat' method was working great, and the 'finding food by walking aimlessly' method wasn't. The sky had lightened a bit behind the clouds, and the wet snow clumps had soaked her fur nearly through. With a huff, she sat down, casting her gaze across the meadow. In the distance, a hare peeked out of its warren, before shuffling back inside right away when it realized what the weather was like.

She huffed, the breath clouding a bit even in the damp, cold air, a dry and largely silent laugh. She was jealous of a fuckin' bunny.

That was her cue to get her ass moving, she supposed, though she was loathe to leave the area that seemed largely desolate of other wolves in her current state. She didn't want to be harassed, and she didn't want temptation staring her in the face. She didn't need the allure of a warm body comforting all her many emotional aches and pains, and soothing the physical ones low in her belly.

Wait, what was she worried about again?

Right. Food. Sex didn't fill Bird's belly and that was the priority. The meadow seemed shit for hunting, so she'd....Go somewhere else. And stay focused on the task at hand, hunger and head fogging her focus be damned. Tail still tucked, Bird stood, tilting her head at the meadow surrounding her briefly before trotting in the mountain's direction. Mountains, she knew, had hunted on before, had learned to hunt there. She'd try there, and hope the cold would do half her work for her. A starved and frozen carcass would take a while to chew on, but it was low-exertion food.

Sitka crouched low and slowly moved forward, towards that fat little hare that had hopped into his line of site. This one was going to have a nice little trip, right into his stomach. He was down wind and the hare hadn't smelled him or seen him yet, just a couple more paces and he would be able to pounce on the unsuspecting little critter. And NOW he thought as he lunged for the rabbit and sunk his teeth deep into the little creatures neck. It let out a scream as he fell upon it and struggled for a few seconds until he clamped his jaws a little tighter and cut off the oxygen.

His stomach grumbled as he tasted the blood in his mouth. It had been a while since he had been able to catch a hare. And he was excited to have found one so plump since it was still snowing out. This one must had found a hidden gem of edible food during the winter.

He started to trot off to find somewhere to lay down and actually enjoy his meal when the wind shifted and brought with it the scent of another wolf. He wasn't completely secluded so he stopped and scanned the area for as far as he could see. And sure enough, there in the distance was another wolf trotting in his direction. He hesitated for a second, not sure if he wanted to make himself known or let the other wolf just pass him by. He was about to turn and walk away, but there was something that was making him stand his ground, and before he knew what he was doing he stepped more into the open so the other wolf would be able to see him. He would let them come to him, if they so chose.

A hare's scream got Bird's attention first, her movements jolting in that direction almost before she even processed what the noise was. A rabbit in pain was a meal for her in the waiting, but-Shit.

Someone else had been the cause of it. Bird came to a sharp halt, posture gathered neatly beneath herself like a deer ready to spring into flight, gaze intent as she picked out the shape of the silvery wolf and his catch.

She could feel saliva start to flood her mouth at the scent, shifting wind directions swirling hare-scent and heat-scent and wolf-scent across her nose. Bird was hungry, and that guy had food. She held perfectly still for a moment, weighing her options. She was in heat-and he was a man with no other scents on his coat-presumably interested. She had three choices before her and none of them were the ideal scenario, but neither was the hormonal, hungry fog clouding her judgement to no small degree.

Bird wasn't sure he'd fight her for the rabbit-He might just run and she wasn't sure she could catch the slighter wolf in a flat-out gallop. Though she considered it, heavily, eventually, her head slowly started to lower, her ears wilted back just a hair. Her tucked tail wiggled against where it curled against the back of her thigh, and she took a tentative step closer. Whether she was interested in him or the hare did not especially matter, so long as she could get something from the encounter that served Bird's many needs.

The female took a step towards him and his ears flicked. She was acting submissive, but that could have been a ploy to get him to drop the hare he still had dangling from his jaws. Blood dripping and leaving crimson drops in the pure white snow. Ready to snatch it from him and take off.

It wasn't until she was a little closer that he caught a strange scent coming off the female and his body reacted in a very strange way. She was in heat and he gave a low appreciative growl as the scent came over him. The growl started him a little. Was that me he thought. Where the fuck did that come from?! He had never been around a female in heat before, at least not one that wasn't attached to someone already, and he had never reacted this way in the past. But he seemed to be on auto pilot now and his tail started to wag of it's own accord and he lowered his head a little and tilted it slightly, still keeping his eyes on the woman.

"'ello" He mumbled with the hare dangling, forgotten, in his jaws. "Oo er ewe?" /he barley managed to form words, but he did not notice. His whole attention focused on the woman infant of him.

He growled as she neared, and she didn't miss the way his nostrils flared just before he did. This wasn't her first walk around the block, though circumstances had been different in the past, and she hadn't been in heat. Bird fought the instinct to bolt, initiate a courtship in the form of play, a game of cat and mouse. It was one of her favorite games, one she normally approached with a boisterousness nearly bruised and beaten out of her by tragedy. In this case, she stood her ground, nervousness at approaching a stranger bolstered by his wagging tail. She was close enough to grab the hare, the scent as thick as her own in her nose.

Beat the snot out of 'im. Encouraged her past selves, but the Wasteland Queen was no more. She was just Bird again, nothing more than some vague shape of a flying creature that was more feathers than substance. She'd thought she was capable of being capable of something more than flight, but that had been proven wrong.

Her name fit her, and as such, and considering there was no gang of ruffians united by her energetic leadership to back her up, Bird didn't even try to steal the hare so close to her hungry maw. Instead, she let her ears lower fully, lapped at her nose shyly. "Bird." She said, suddenly glad it wasn't a fat grouse in his mouth lest he mistake her name for a demand. "And you?"

Sitka's tail picked up pace as the female went into an even more submissive stance. Bird, what a pretty name. Slowly he lowered the hare down and set it down between his front legs. "What a pretty name, my lady Bird. It is a pleasure to meet you." He gave her a charming lop sided grin and gave another low appreciative growl. He was utterly captivated. Never had he seen a female like her. Of all the wolves that he had met in the past none had captivated him like she has.

What the hell was wrong with him?! His heart was racing, he couldn't think straight, and he wasn't sure if he wanted to run away or pin her to the ground. His instincts were in overdrive trying to tell him what to do, but he was trying his hardest to remain in control and not act like a complete ass. She approached him and had not shown any signs of aggression. Last thing he wanted to do was let his body take control and harm her or offend her. He took a tentative step forward, slowly licked out as if he was about to lick her muzzle, and lowered his voice so her ears would be the only ones to hear him "How can I help you today, my lady?"

He had no idea what he was doing, but it felt right and he was going to roll with it. No matter where it would take him in the end.

He put the hare down. The woman fought the urge to whine, impatient, conflicting instincts warring for which would rule her next move. The silver wolf complimented her, while Bird simultaneously noted he was smaller, potentially weaker than her, as well as the appealingly fine-boned features of his face. He didn't reply with his name. That was fine, she decided, even wise. She wished she'd thought of that before she'd given her real one. "The pleasure's all mine." Bird replied.

The silver wolf took a step closer, and Bird jolted slightly, her expression taking a slightly more playful and confident note as she settled into the somewhat familiar routine of flirting. His tongue against her muzzle was confirmation of his more sensual interest, though Bird took an excitable step back at that, a wound-up whine keening from her through. She didn't like the stranger's teeth so close to her nose, throat and eyes-All things she hoped to keep in good shape for a while yet. But the lick also stirred the uncomfortable itching warmth beneath her skin. "We can help each other, I hope." Bird interjected, trying to sound inviting. "I have many appetites needing sated."

Sitka's body hummed with excitement at hearing her whine and take a playful step back. He was ready to go after her, play with her, get them both so riled up that they wouldn't be able to stop them selves when he was finally able to pin her and make her his. At least for a moment. Fuck he wanted her. But that step back, that little extra space between them was what he needed to regain at least a fraction of control over his body. Her words sank into him, suggesting that they could help each other He was more than willing to help her in all the ways that she needed, but he would not allow her to trade sex for food. He would share his meal with her, and after that, if she was still amiable he would be more than willing to provide his body in order to sate her more primal needs. But he wouldn't tell her that just yet. He would play with her a little more, see if he could get another whine out of her, receive another one of those playful heated looked.

He took another step back, keeping eye contact and giving her his own, he hoped, heated look, promising all that would come with his eyes. Lowering his head he went to grab the rabbit. Right before his mouth clamped over the prey's body he realized that she had asked him his name earlier, but in his hormone driven haze he had not answered her. "The name's Sitka, my lady. Now if you'll follow me I would be more than happy to...satiate you" He said the last two words while letting his heated gave roam her body and put a little growl behind them. Letting her draw her own conclusions as to which way he meant. He grabbed the rabbit and slowly walked buy her, letting his body sway towards her as he passed to rub along her length if she would allow it. Letting her know that he was not taking the food away from her and he was more than happy to continue their play. He wanted to move a little further into the tree line for more privacy. Not only for the food but for what he whole heartedly hoped would come after.

She could work with this. He was intriguing, confident without being too pushy. Bird let him lean into her, nosing at his flank boldly before turning to follow him. He was, after all, hauling off with her rabbit.

His confidence boosted as he felt her return the flirtation and put a little spring in his step as he walked off towards the trees and the river he could hear rushing by. This was going to a very interesting meal with a very interesting female. All of a sudden Sitka was very glad he left the valley he had once hoped to call home. This was going to be a much better place to be. He could feel it in his bones.
